steven's STORY:

Stephen lost both of his parents within 6 months of each other. His father had AIDS and his mother died 6 months later. This left three young children alone in their hut in the village of Bar Apwo near Lira. Stephen was only four years old but he was in charge of taking care of his twin brother and his three week old baby sister. He tried to find enough food for the three of them but without anyone to help, it was impossible and after two months his baby sister died in his arms. After this tragic event, a community member finally stepped into help, calling a local orphanage. Stephen's brother was placed in the orphanage, but Stephen stayed with his aunt and uncle, who were very abusive. One day Steven was beaten so badly that he fled to Lira. After several days he was found collapsed and bleeding on the side of the road by Saving Grace children who were returning home from school.

Stephen's life has been completely changed since being taken in by Saving Grace in Uganda. He is now a confident and capable young man who cares about what is right. He is also extremely honest and respected for his integrity. Known around the village for his goal scoring abilities, Stephen is a very competitive soccer player. He works hard on his school work and has advanced to secondary school. He is a good friend and brother to all of the boys who live at the Saving Grace Village and hopes to one day become a professional driver.
