MONICA'S STORY:

After her father died in a car accident and her mother died of AIDS, Monica was brought to Lira from her village, 50 miles away, and then abandoned to live on the streets. During street life Monica endured many hardships including sexual abuse from street boys and adults using her for labor without payment. She lived on the streets for three and a half years until she was rescued by Saving Grace in Uganda in 2011.

Although not the oldest, Monica is a leader among the girls at the village. She has a very strong personality and is incredibly bold. She sets an example for those around her as a spiritual and emotional leader. Despite her strength, she also has a soft side and enjoys writing encouraging letters to her friends and playing practical jokes. You can find her reading, playing tag, dancing and singing around the village. Monica dreams of being a nurse someday and we are so excited to see how the Lord will continue to transform her life.
